Why doesn’t my dog listen?
One tip to a better relationship with your dog is to have better communication (clarity).
Be sure you are speaking, using hand signals and commands/cues that you’ve reinforced, repeatedly.
A confused dog gets frustrated and may give up. He may even resort to behaviors he knows that have gotten him attention in the past. To some dogs, NEGATIVE attention (yelling, pushing them away) is still attention and they ❤ it!
Take this for example, your dog does a lot of jumping up on you when you come home. Your response is to block him, push him off or hold your knee up.
In your dog’s mind, “oh yeah, we are gonna wrestle! I LOVE this game!” 🤗
As dog boomerangs and catapults himself on and off you! 😡🙄
You tell the dog “off” and “sit”.
You’re finding this sometimes works and sometimes it doesn’t.
🤔 why?
What if you’re using the word “off” for jumping and others in the house are not and they’re saying “down” instead?
BINGO!
CONFUSION…HE NEEDS CLARITY.
Everyone within the home needs to be using the same words and hand signals to be certain there is clear and consistent communication. If everyone is not using the same “language” this muddies the water and makes your dog confused. 🤯
